lambent memories

a star map

The clouds have moved out to sea again - the sky is clear again, the wind has shifted, the palms subtlety bend to the southeast and the stars have appeared through open air - vast space. The same stars at 6, 8, 13, 27 - latitude and longitude changing but unchanged.

I pondered on their mapping on so many nights after my father gave me a poster of the solar system when I was 8. It held pride of place on my bedroom wall - to the left of a single bed with white chenille bedspread. We'd pinned it to the wall, before blu tac, "Where does it end?" ... and that question never ended - it gave me a premise to build every other question upon - a clear trajectory - spotless.
